Thanks so very much for this. I've been diabetic for 39 years and I want it GONE!!

After such a long time with diabetes the likelihood of fully reversing the process is a very uphill proposition due to significant loss of beta-cell functional capacity. Having said that, you may be able to decrease your dependence on medication with aggressive lifestyle modification.

I've come to realize we doctors have done a very poor job of teaching patients what the term lifestyle modification really encompasses. Coming next Monday I'm starting a new multipart series going deep into this topic and giving you the specific behavioral changes needed to actually modify your lifestyle in an impactful way.

I am sorry, there is no way that it could be gone. I am 80, from India and have been on diabetic medication for 15 years now. Metformin plus, right now it is 10 mg Linagliptin. My regular GP, who is also a MD, is more pragmatic. She knows our life style and knows that we haven’t been indulgent. She feels that if our regular fasting is in the 130s range and our pp around 170 types and A1C about 7-7.5, we must accept it as the targets to maintain. She says that at our age, there are no medications to bring insulin resistance back to order and there is nothing much left in our life style changes. She says we must remain happy and focus on enjoying the rest of our life and live light.
